Let music save you....

Giles: You mean life?
Buffy: Yeah. Does it get easy?
Giles: What do you want me to say?
Buffy: Lie to me.
Giles: Yes, it’s terribly simple. The good guys are always stalwart and true, the bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and, uh, we always defeat them and save the day. No one ever dies, and everybody lives happily ever after.

My Thoughts On…Diggy

A lot of people  have been hating on Diggy Simmons. The 17 year old offspring of REV RUN has recently released his debut album. While critics have been positive about the young rappers debut album, fans of the hip/hop scene have been hating on him for two reasons: His father being who he is and his status. Yes, Diggy has no street cred, but he never said he did. He’s also never denied the fact of who his father is (hard to). Regardless many have been hating on him because of this and refuse to acknowledge the fact that he has skills.

Diggy first caught my attention after releasing the single “Oh Yeah” featuring Pharrell and  Lupe Fiasco (from the mixtape Airbourne). I was instantly in awe of such a young artist doing what he’s doing. I did have my doubts about him at first being who he was, but those doubts were forgotten once I listened to his work. Between his mixtapes and debut album, Diggy has shown that he can still convoy his imagery through his lyrics without cursing in every other line. Now as a hip/hop fan I’m not venting about the cursing in lyrics, but I think it’s something to say that Diggy can do all this without using any. The album is not without its flaws of course but it is his first album.

So why do we hate on a young artist who clearly has skill, but praise artists who never take risks and release the same sh!t?

In my opinion, if his name helped him release SOLID tracks, why hate?

Just a thought…

Personal favorite off the album.
